大学英语是我国非英语专业本科生的必修课程, 教学改革经历了几次重大的范式变化, 由最初的要求培养学生的阅读能力, 逐渐过渡到重视学生的听说能力, 直至强调学生的英语综合应用能力, 还原了外语教学应有的本来面目。2007年教育部高教司颁布的《大学英语课程要求》 (以下简称《课程要求》) 指出, 大学英语是以培养学生英语知识和技能、语言文化、跨文化交际能力、学习策略为目的的综合性课程, 各地、各校要根据实际教学环境“因材施教”, 充分运用优质教学软件和教学资源推动高校建立网络环境下的英语教学新模式, 突出“个性化”和“人文精神”, 切实培养学生的英语综合应用能力, 尤其是“听说能力”, 增强其“自主学习能力”, 发展个性, 提高“综合文化素养” (教育部高等教育司, 2007) 。
大学英语评价体系是大学英语教学改革的重要内容。长期以来, 作为外语教学的主要评价方式, 终结性评价被看作是用来检查学生的综合语言运用能力、反映教学效果和办学质量的重要指标, 但却从某种程度上造成了以考试结果论成败、分数至上的误导。针对大学英语教学中出现的应试教育倾向, 《课程要求》提出了要从单一的终结性考试转变为对学生的语言应用能力、自主学习能力、跨文化交际能力进行全面考查, 将“形成性评价”与“终结性评价”结合起来, 充分考虑学习者个体在学习方法、能力、需求等方面的主体性、能动性和创造性。教育部考试中心主任戴家干亦指出, “当前我们提升教育质量、改造考试的重点是在传统考试的基础上构建一个科学的教育考试与评价体系, 实现从单一的考试到多元评价的跃升, 这既是考试改革的核心问题, 也是教育改革的关键所在” (戴家干, 2008) 。
2 教学实验及测试
(1) 实验方法:参加教改试验的学生是笔者所在学校的2009级临床、护理、药学、检验、影像本科共5个班的277名学生, 教改实验为期4学期。使用的教材为《新视野大学英语》听说教程和读写教程, 每周4学时分配为2:2。期末考试采用形成性评价占40%, 内容有出勤、作业、课堂表现、背诵、听写、单元测试、个人展示、诗歌创作等;终结性评价占60%, 内容有综合口试+期末统考 (党少兵, 2010) 。
(2) 英语能力综合测试
大学英语教学改革的最终目标是培养适应国际交流需要、具有综合外语交际能力的大学生。无论评价方式如何, 语言能力这个中心不能偏废。为了测试学生的语言能力, 笔者将阅读、听力、口语、写作等测试方式结合起来, 涵盖了水平测试、成绩测试、能力测试和诊断测试等多种功能。测试的方式是先读后听、先说后写, 读、听、说、写结合, 重点检测学生读取信息后的听力理解和口语表述能力。
为获取实验组的真实数据、体现测试的公平性, 笔者将5个实验班的277名学生按自然教学班分为五组, 每组按学号区段分为5组, 没有学业成绩优劣之分, 每班1至10号为第1组, 11至20号为第2组, 以此类推, 分别由5位教师以同样一组试题施考。
测试方法是学生从试题库里抽取一篇50词左右、难度适中、有关校园生活题材的文章, 在不知考题的情况下于指定时间内脱稿口头回答由主考老师提出的两道既包含口试, 又能够检测考生语言水平的阅读理解问题, 内容涉及文章的主旨和重要细节。提问结束后脱稿写一段话题作文, 由班干部监督收集。该测试满分为20分, 口语、写作各占10分。评分标准依据下列因素:①理解全面准确30%;②逻辑思维清晰20%;③语言形式正确20%;④表达生动恰当20%;⑤综合表现10%, 涵盖应试者的语言驾御能力、应变能力、临场发挥、口笔头表达效果等整体印象。写作外加卷面整洁±1分, 但最高得分不超过10分。
上表是各班语言能力综合测试结果。为便于分析, 笔者将评分标准的三、四项 (语言形式正确和表达生动恰当) 合并分析, 因为二者相互影响, 是语言能力测试的关键所在。本表显示, 学生对所读短文的准确理解在各项测试中成绩最好, 优秀率达82%;逻辑思维成绩排在第二, 平均分虽仅在及格线上一点 (13.5) , 但及格率达75%, 表明同学们能够比较准确地抓住文章的主旨, 具有一定的语言组织能力和口语表达水平;综合成绩和临场表现排名第三, 多数学生 (69.9%) 的语言应变能力和临场发挥正常, 基本做到思维清晰、表达顺畅;学生的语言基本功和表达效果在诸项表现中排名最后, 及格率 (56.2%) 和平均分 (22.7) 刚刚过半, 平均分未达及格线, 说明三分之一左右的学生语言运用能力欠缺。极少数学生临场表现特别紧张, 甚至有头脑一片空白的情况, 说明这些学生平时课堂上没有积极参与课堂教学活动, 口语训练太少, 缺乏自信心, 语言应变能力较差。
3 分析讨论
为了全面了解多元评价的有关信息, 笔者于第三学期末设计了问卷调查, 内容主要涉及教学评价形式8项、评价内容15项、评价主体7项以及网络课教学与传统课堂教学的对比情况14项。调查采用里克特五分量表:5-完全同意、1-完全不同意, 网络教学相关课程的教师和学生于课间休息时无记名自愿填写, 收回有效问卷教师14份, 学生214份。
(1) 总体评价:①对学业评价形式的调查显示, 教师和学生均赞成网络教学的形成性评价形式, 而教师的反响 (均值3.93) 比学生 (3.83) 明显;传统课堂到底是否需要形成性评价, 学生 (4.11) 比教师 (3.73) 反响强烈。②评价内容的调查显示, 教师对评价体系的认可度 (3.85) 比学生高 (3.44) ;在是否应该把听写背诵、单元测试、学生日记、语言测试等作为评价内容的态度上, 教师比学生更为支持;而学生比较赞赏对课堂整体表现、教学效果及师生座谈或访谈的评价。③关于网络课堂与传统课堂教学的对比情况, 师生认识的共同点是网络教学有助于听说技能训练、培养团队协作精神、面授应占一定比例。④网络教学是否适合个性化学习及是否减轻教师工作量方面师生分歧较大, 学生认为网络教学更适合自主学习选择;相比之下, 老师认为网络教学并不一定减轻工作量。⑤评价主体的调查结果在问卷诸方面意见最为一致, 除了同伴互评以及外部考试遭到部分学生的质疑, 其它方面师生都比较认可。
(2) 师生态度对比:如果将统计结果折合成100分计算, 则90%以上教师最支持的观点是:网络教学评价模式有助于培养学生的团队精神 (4.72) 、教学评价应重视学生的语言综合测试 (4.67) 、网络教学适合听说技能训练 (4.62) 、学生的自评很有必要 (4.55) 、教师的面授必不可少 (4.53) , 90%以上学生最支持的观点是:形成性评价更能全面评价学生 (4.86) 、学生的自评很有必要 (4.85) , 师生共同认可的方面是:网络教学适合听说技能训练、教师的面授是必不可少以及网络教学有助于培养学生的团队精神等。对于教学作为评价主体而言, 学生对教师的认可度 (4.63) 仅次于学生的自评 (4.85) , 而对同伴的认可度差一些 (3.67) , 也许他们担心同学评价的公平性。
4 结语
大学英语教学的终极目标是提高学生的英语综合应用能力, 激发学生的学习动机和学习兴趣, 培养终身学习能力、协作学习精神和人际交往能力。排序会给低起点学生带来压力 (Brown&Hudson, 2002) 。而多元评价以动态的眼光评价个体的发展, 使学生融入评价活动, 不断得到反馈信息, 增强学习信心, 产生内在动力, 对提高学习有困难的学生自信心和收获感帮助更为明显, 应成为常规化、流程化和专业化的教学活动 (金艳, 2008) 。当然, 网络环境下的多元评价亦非尽善尽美, 不同高校、不同专业的学生在学习动机、学习背景、学习风格以及对未来工作的取向等方面存在巨大差异, 大学英语教学的质量标准也应该考虑到学生的差异, 采用多样化和发展性的质量标准, 这就要求我们教育工作者努力“开发更真实、具有内在激励作用的评价手段, 使其适合所在的教学环境, 并为学生提供建设性的反馈意见” (Brown 2004) 。

一、引言
二语写作能力的培养是第二语言学习的重要内容,同时也是国内外大型英语测试的一项重要考查内容。在20世纪写作测试的发展过程中,主要有三种模式:间接写作模式、直接写作测试和案卷写作模式。大规模写作考试中采用最多的是即席限时的直接写作测试,这种测试的构念效度和真实性受到研究者不同程度的质疑。直接作文测试割裂了阅读和写作的联系,极易将英语写作教学导入误区。为了克服上述问题,综合写作测试模式应运而生。自2007年起,广东省高考英语试题开始采用读写结合写作测试。
二、读写任务的二语习得理论基础
根据Krashen的输入假说,大量的可理解性输入是语言习得的必要条件,输入的语言材料以略高于学生现有语言水平为宜。但是后来研究发现,仅仅输入是不够的。Swain指出,仅仅依赖可理解性输入不足以使语言学习者流利地使用语言,二语能力的提高不仅仅是语言大量的可理解性输入,还需要大量的可理解性输出,读写任务正是将输入和输出结合的重要方式之一。
三、读写任务与阅读写作技能
读写结合写作任务要求学生在阅读一篇或数篇文章的基础上,完成梗概,自由写作。首先学习者阅读源文,然后根据题目要求进行写作。建构主义认为,读写任务是通过阅读和写作建构意义的过程。阅读和写作相互影响,不仅仅是阅读和写作的简单相加。阅读是进行读写任务的第一步,读写任务中的阅读理解不仅仅是字面意义上的理解,Gray将篇章的理解分为三个层次:字面意思理解、文字隐含意义理解和批判阅读理解。读写任务需要进行批判性阅读,需要学生充分理解源文,抓住源文主旨,然后将源文中对某事物的观点和自己的背景知识进行对比,进一步确定自己的观点,并在此基础上确定写作主题。写作过程中,学生需要不断参考源文,将源文中观点和自己观点在写作中进行整合,形成新的篇章。写作中通常使用三个策略:组织、选择和整合。组织指的是在阅读时,测试者为了表达新的意义,利用源文的某些信息,将其组织到自己的篇章中;选择是指为了构建新的意义,测试者对源文中的某些信息进行选择;整合指将自己的观点和源文中的观点进行有效整合。
四、读写结合写作测试与高中生英语综合运用能力
《新课程标准》提出高中英语课程的总目标其中之一是“培养学生的综合语言运用能力,而综合语言运用能力的形成是建立在语言技能、语言知识、情感态度、学习策略和文化意识等素养整合发展的基础上。” 20世纪90年代,Bachman提出了交际语言测试模式,不仅关注语言的语法规则,更注重语言测试的规则性、得体性和真实性,同时也考查听说读写多种语言技能的综合性。读写结合写作测试充分体现了这种测试理念。
广东省从2007年起开始采用新的高考英语试卷。作文部分共计40分,其中包括读写结合写作任务共计25分。以2010年为例,读写任务要求学生阅读一篇关于家长用金钱鼓励孩子学习的一篇文章。要求首先用三十字概括文章的主题,然后就此现象写约120字的文章来谈一下自己的感受。采取读写结合写作任务有以下优点:一是读写结合写作测试具有较强的真实性。克服了无材料作文中因为学生背景知识不同而对分数造成的偏颇,保证了学生有话可说,更接近于真实交际活动对学生综合语言运用能力的要求。二是读写结合写作任务构念反映了《新课程标准》对高中阶段写作技能目标提出的“进一步发展学生综合语言运用能力的基础上,着重提高学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力,特别注重提高学生用英语进行思维和表达的能力”的总体要求。三是考查了学生的元认知和认知策略的运用,对学习策略的培养产生积极的后效作用。学生只有在日常学习中注重学习策略的培养,才能应对读写任务对元认知和认知能力的要求。四是单一的写作测试模式极容易将高中写作教学引入“为写而写”的误区,不利于学生整合多渠道信息和资源进行有目的的写作。将读写任务与高中阅读和写作进行教学融合,有助于提高教学质量,促进高中英语教学的良性发展。
五、结语
读写结合写作测试是为了克服直接写作测试的缺点而出现的一种新型测试模式,在综合运用的语境中测量学生相关的知识和技能,并给学生充分展示语言能力和策略使用的机会,体现了交际语言测试理论的测试理念。广东省在高考中采用读写结合写作任务,是新形势下对高考测试改革所作出的积极探索。但是读写任务的构念效度、评分员之间的信度以及读写结合写作过程和行为的主要因素等问题仍需要解决。对于这些问题的解决,不但有助于建立起科学有效的高考写作评分体系,而且有助于促进《新课程标准》指导下的高中英语教学改革朝着积极的方向发展。
