A new study suggests that the more teenagers watch television, the more likely ( 可能的 ) they are to develop depression ( 抑郁症 ) as young adults.

The researchers used a national long-term survey of healthy young teenagers of about 13-16 to fi nd out the relationship between media ( 媒体 ) use and depression. They based ( 基于 ) their fi ndings on more than 4, 000 young teenagers who were not depressed when the survey began in 1995.

As part of the survey, the young people were asked how many hours of television or videos they watched daily. They were also asked how often they played computer games and listened to the radio. Here was the result. The young people spent five and a half hours a day using media and more than two hours of that was spent watching TV.

Seven years later, in 2001, more than 7% of the young people had signs (迹象) of depression. The average at that time was 21years old. Brian Primack at the University of Pittaburgh medical school was the lead author of the new study. He says every extra hour of television meant an 8% increase in the chances of developing signs of depression.

The researchers say they did not fi nd any such relationship with the use of other media such as movies, video games or radio. But the study did fi nd that young men were more likely than young women to develop depression given the same amount ( 数量 ) of media use.

Doctor Primack says the study did not fi nd out if watching TV caused depression directly. But one possibility, he says, is that it may take time away from activities that could help prevent depression, like sports and social activities. 一、档案评价教学的内涵与特色

档案评价是依学生个别的差异、不同的学习领域与年龄,并在兼顾认知、情感和技能的学习目标下,让学生持续一段时间有系统且有意义地将本身的学习历程集结起来,然后再由教师根据一些标准予以评价。而整个档案从内容的选择、选择的标准及评价的标准,都需要尊重学生的意见,并教导学生主动搜集、组织与反省自己的学习成果。因此,档案评价能反映出的不只是学生的认知能力,还包括学生的努力,进而使学生成为独立的自我导向学习者。换而言之,档案评价是一种结合教学与评价、顾及个别差异、适用许多学习领域和年龄,并且兼具多重目的的评价方式,最大特色在于提供弹性的空间并长期搜集学生作品,可以兼顾认知、情意和技能的学习评价方式。

档案评价具有以下特色:档案搜集目标化、档案内容组织化、学习呈现历程化、评价方式与人员多元化、学习内省化、实施过程互动化。基于上述特色,档案评价对学生而言,能从中学习如何有系统选择、累积、组织、反省及呈现自我学习成长历程;对教师而言,档案评价则搭起教与学之间的桥梁,促进师生交流的机会。对家长而言,档案评价可使家长更了解孩子的优势与劣势,评价不再只是一个抽象的分数或等第。对同事而言,档案评价提供同事互相观摩、分享学习的机会。

二、档案评价教学的实施程序

档案评价实施的程序,说明如下:

(一)准备与规划阶段

规划完整的档案评价计划,了解学生的先备知识,向学生介绍制作档案评价的意义及知识或技巧。

(二)界定档案评价的目的

旨在使学生培养自动记录并反省学习过程、自评与互评、培养学习兴趣、建立正向的学习态度、培养责任感、学习且乐于与人合作。

(三)决定档案的项目与内容

可包括“一般项目”、“独特项目”及“其它项目”,以适应不同学习型态的学生;内容必须兼顾历程与结果,如个人学习发展检核表、测验数据、学习单、作品、不同人员评价的资料等。

(四)制定评分的标准

可包括数据的完整性与周延性、思考与作品的深度、作品种类的广度、整体档案或个别项目的创造性、知识与技能的成长证据等;评分原则并不是要求不同评分者间的一致,而是在寻求对话与讨论的机会,使用于教学绩效评鉴时,应格外谨慎。

(五)进行师生档案审视、省思与对话

学生反馈是档案评价中核心的步骤,借助自我省思可以培养学生批判思考的能力,但由于學生少有自我省思的机会,所以教师可提供结构性的问题来引导学生省思;在师生对谈方面,在学生和教师各自省思后,师生可进行个别深入的对谈,借助师生双向的沟通,教师能掌握学生的执行情况和态度。

(六)发表与展示学生的档案

教师应提供机会让学生展示自己的学习档案,不但可以让学生更懂得去欣赏他人的作品,也能培养学生批判思考的能力,学习提出良性建议。

(七)制作使用说明

档案指导说明应包括档案用途、谁会取得档案、档案的内容与评鉴标准。档案评价的优点对提升学习的动机与学习成就、改善学习的策略、培养反省及批判思考能力、改善班级学习气氛等都有正面的影响。然而,档案评价在实施的过程中,也面临到相当程度的困难与限制,包括费时、费力、评分缺乏信度与效度、家长参与所造成的不公、学生缺乏反省的能力、模糊评价的目标。

三、档案评价在初中英语教学中的应用建议

1.档案评价的项目宜多元性且具意义

虽然传统的纸笔测验受到相当多的质疑,但也有其存在的价值,因此在规划档案项目时,也可纳入纸笔测验的资料。再者,为能充分展现学生的学习成果,档案项目宜更多元且具意义,但凡符合教学目标且能展现学生学习历程,均可纳入。因此,建议英语教师在规划档案评价的项目时,可以更多元,例如增加实践的学习单,让评价更具实用性与创造性,再辅以反省回馈单来培养学生自我反省的能力。

2.实践学习单的设计宜融入学生的学习兴趣

实践学习单的设计不应只强调应用绘画来呈现学习的作品,绘画虽能带给学生新鲜感,但常流于画画比赛或华丽的噱头,无法提高学习成效。因此,建议英语教师在设计实践学习单时宜融入学生所感兴趣的话题,提供多元的呈现方式,例如绘画、表演、偶像介绍等活动,才能引发学生的共鸣,使其能有自信地将潜能呈现于档案评价中。

3.档案评价宜提供学生反省与回馈的机会

初中学生在过去的学习经验中,鲜有机会针对自我课堂的学习情况加以反省。因此在实施档案评价教学时,多数学生无所适从,不知如何撰写反省回馈单。但随着该教学方式的进行,能够发现只要教师能适度地引导,学生反省的态度是可以培养的。因此,建议英语教师在进行档案评价时,能多给予学生时间使其有机会自我沉淀,反省自我学习的轨迹,通过各单元反省反馈单的引导与撰写,假以时日应能培养学生自主学习的能力。

4.档案评价的评分方式宜明确且易执行

一些研究发现每个项目的评价若均由教师和同事共同来评价,会出现时间不足的问题,成绩也很难计算,因此建议英语教师在档案评价的方式上宜简化且采分工方式来进行,例如由教师评价档案的内容,由同事评价档案的完整性与封面设计,再由学生为自己的成长进行评分,各司其职,较节省时间且容易执行。

5.充分沟通评价标准及意义并增加互评人数

档案评价虽不如纸笔测验客观,但从一些研究发现它却能带给学生具有意义的评价,然为避免造成评价不公或不适切的现象,建议英语教师在评价前宜先制定明确的评价规准,并与学生充分讨论其所代表的意义,帮助不同评分者更适切地进行评价。再者,可增加互评的人数,以降低同事关系对评价客观性的影响。
