1 引言
自20世纪60年代中期开始, 语篇分析 (discourse analysis) 作为一种独立的研究方法开始在中国兴起, 引起了不少研究者的兴趣, 因为它相对其他研究方法更具有实用性, 它不仅能分析出语篇的交际目的, 而且能分析出作者在达到目的时使用的策略技巧。在近半个世纪的时间里, 语篇分析的发展经历了几个阶段, 研究重点也发生了相应的变化:从纯粹的词汇语法分析到语篇结构分析再更深进入到分析语篇所处的语境因素、社会文化因素以及语篇社团因素。研究领域逐渐挖深, 到现在已进入到体裁分析 (genre analysis) 阶段, 以交际目的为基础, 着重分析体裁的语言策略运用、体裁的宏观结构和交际功能。
在经济高度发展的当今社会, 商务语体在当今国际贸易中发挥着越来越重要的作用, 而其中宣传类体裁更是商务语体中不可忽视的一种体裁。以前的研究注重从总体上研究宣传类体裁的特征, 或者研究宣传类语体群中某一种次体裁的特征, 很少有比较研究。
本文试图从概念、体裁分析的特点等方面着手, 对商务宣传促销类体裁中的次体裁即英文推销信和求职信进行比较分析, 探讨它们两种次体裁在交际目的、题材结构和词汇语法特征上的异同点。以便更全面地把握这两种次体裁以及更好地实现宣传说服的实践意义。
2 体裁理论
2.1 体裁的概念
关于体裁的概念, 最早是由Swales (1990) 提出来的, 后来Bhatia (1993) 在Swales的体裁概念基础上进一步作出阐明;而国内学者对体裁的概念作出解释主要有秦秀白 (1997) 和方琰 (1998) 。本文主要引用Bhatia (1993) 对体裁定义的解释。根据Bhatia, “体裁是一种可被辨认的交际事件, 这种交际事件经常出现在特定的职业或学术团体的范围, 其显著特点是具有能被该社团理解并确认的一整套交际目的, 这种共有的交际目的确定了体裁的构建, 同时也确定了其内部的结构。体裁是一种内部结构特征鲜明、高度约定俗成的交际事件。有关职业和学术社团的专业人员均对特定语篇体裁和其内在结构了如指掌” (Bhatia, 1993) 。
2.2 体裁分析的特点
体裁分析是一个广泛的概念, 模式众多, 不可一概而论, 但有几个特点可以总结如下:
体裁交际目的的重要性。很多因素影响着体裁性质和构成, 其中最重要的是交际目的, 这是从体裁的定义得出来的。交际目的是所有交际参与者所共同理解并且得到社会或语篇团体一致认同的, 它不但是划分不同体裁的依据, 更决定着体裁的语言策略的运用以及语篇结构模式。
体裁分析的多层次性。体裁分析有三个分析层次, 这三个层次由微观到宏观, 面面俱到, 力求做到分析全面, 不遗漏。首先是词汇语法特征分析, 这种分析体裁的语言修辞方面的特点, 这是表面特征分析, 即微观分析。进而进入体裁结构模式分析, 揭示语篇的结构组织模式, 最后是进入到宏观分析层次, 即社会认知分析, 结合体裁所处的社会语境、语篇社团以及交际对象来整体分析体裁的社会文化因素、心理认知因素以及语篇社团因素的互动。
体裁分析的实用性。体裁分析可以用于不同体裁分析也可用于同一体裁的不同此体裁研究, 研究范围广泛, 研究方法简单, 多是文本分析。
3 英文推销信和求职信
3.1 英文推销信
英文商业推销信是英文广告中直接信函的一种, 是企业在其促销活动中广泛使用的一种宣传方式。促销信语言属于“鼓动性语言”, 有强烈的“劝说功能”, 在语法修辞、词汇、句法等方面都独具特色。
3.2 英文求职信
求职信是附于简历上, 以进一步说明求职者经历、能力的信函, 是不可缺少的求职材料。求职信是求职者经历和能力的一种推销, 所以说, 英文求职信和商务促销书一样, 均是用来把自己当做一件商品推销出去的一种商业函件。作为商务信函的一种, 其交际目的是为了获得面试的机会, 最终帮助求职者获得所谋求的工作职位。
4 比较分析英文推销信和求职信的异同点
4.1 相似点
第一, 交际目的的相似性。求职信和推销信有相同的交际目的, 都是就申请或销售的价值说服预期的雇主或买主, 同属于宣传类语体的次体裁。
Bhatia从识别体裁最重要的因素即体裁的交际目的这一点来强调求职信和推销信的相似性。他认为, 虽然求职信和推销信被认为是两种很不同的文本, 大异小同, 但是只要比较两种文件的交际目的, 就会发现他们的交际目的是相同的, 即他们促销一种特定产品或服务。两者都是说服性的, 使用相同媒介, 采用同一形式。
第二, 体裁结构上的相似性。根据Bhatia, 英文推销信和求职信在体裁结构上有些共同语步, 即提出所推销的内容, 详细介绍推销内容, 提出足以激励对方的策略, 附寄文件, 采用施压策略, 请求回复, 礼貌收尾。
第三, 词汇语法特征的相似性。首先, 英文推销信和求职信是属于商务英语语体, 因此体现着商务英语的共同特征:商务导向, 谦虚有礼, 简洁、具体、明晰;其次, 这两种语篇是宣传类语体的次体裁, 体现着宣传类语体的词汇语法特征。他们的语言体现着劝说的交际目的, 因而多用说服性的语言, 且具有信息性, 以此来让顾客和应聘者了解所推销的内容;再次, 两者在语气上都使用祈使语气, 让对方感受到一种真诚和礼貌;最后, 两者在语言细节上多用具有积极意义的词汇和名词前多重修饰词。具有积极含义的词汇是为了为了增强说服力和感染力, 塑造积极、乐观、愉快和亲切的形象, 让对方对所推销的内容产生好感并树立足够的信心, 这些词汇使读者感到热情和亲切, 对使用该产品或服务的前景感到乐观和充满信心。名词前多重修饰语是为了把要表达的信息高度密集化。名词前多重修饰语的使用, 在保证表达必要信息的前提下, 既精简了语法结构, 又达到行文简洁紧凑的效果。
4.2 不同点
第一, 交际目的的不同点。虽然从宏观角度来看, 英文推销信和求职信作为宣传类语体群的次体裁, 有共同的交际目的, 即劝说的功能, 但是具体分析起来, 两者的交际目的还是有些不同。英文促销信主要是为了引起潜在客户对商家所提供的产品或服务的注意、引起潜在客户的兴趣和购买欲、开启商家和潜在客户之间的业务关系、刺激潜在客户采取购买行动。总而言之, 促销信的主要交际目的就是说服潜在客户购买商家所提供的产品或接受其服务。而求职信作为一种商务信函, 其交际目的主要是为了获得面试的机会, 最终帮助求职者获得所谋求的工作职位。
第二, 题材结构的不同点。Bhatia总结了推销信和求职信有些共同的语步, 但同时它们在结构和语步上也有些微妙的不同。推销信和求职信对每个语步的重视程度是不一样的, 而且不同语步在两种语体中担任的角色也是不一样的。在推销信中, 重视的是以下几个语步:介绍推销内容、介绍产品或服务、介绍推销内容的重要细节、指明推销内容的价值。而求职信着重在提出或陈述候选身份, 确定任职凭证, 提出足以激励对方接受申请凭证。
第三, 词汇语法的不同点。英文推销信的词汇语法特点主要体现在:并列结构和主从结构交替使用、多用主动句, 少用被动句、多用肯定句式, 少用否定句式、多用祈使句、多用现在时和现在完成时、多用第一人称和第二人称作主语。而英文求职信的语言风格则有以下几个方面来体现:因为求职信是为了获得面试的机会或者甚至得到一份工作, 因此它的语言是要积极表现自己能胜任所要应聘的工作的, 多是描述性的形容词, 用以展现自己的能力才干来引起雇主的兴趣、注意和欣赏;另外求职信中重要的一个语步是鼓励雇主接受自己的申请, 因而必须求职者必须在信中主要讲述自己在过去的工作和生活中与申请职位相关的工作经历以及取得的相关成绩, 这就需要在信中这一语步时多使用行动性性的词汇, 以此说明自己的确值得雇主聘用;最后, 在求职信结尾处求职者会表达希望能够得到面试的机会, 所以在这一部分要使用表达殷切希望的词语, 语气要谦和、礼貌而又不失自尊。
4.3 英文推销信和求职信不同点的原因
英文推销信和求职信所表现出来的不同点究其原因可以从三个方面来解释:应用语境、交际对象、专业用语。虽然从交际目的来判断, 求职信和推销信同属于宣传促销类体裁, 在很多方面有着相似点, 但是由于处于不同的应用语境针对不同的交际对象以及使用不同的专业用语, 自然会使得英文求职信和推销信在同一体裁的大框架下表现出自己的个性。应用语境的差异导致交际目的的不同, 大的环境背景延伸出小的交际目的。交际对象和专业用语的原因引起了求职信和推销信在结构上和词汇表上表现出一系列不同点。
5 结语
宣传类语体服务于特定的言语社团, 具有特定的交际目的, 呈现出独特的语言特点和语篇特点, 负载较强的社会功能。用题材分析的方法对宣传类语体群的次体裁英文推销信和求职信进行比较, 从交际目的到题材结构再到词汇语法特征进行逐层分析, 从而了解到推销信和求职信作为宣传类语体群的两种次体裁既有宣传类语体的共同特征, 又有因其所在的特定的商务环境和跨文化人类因素而在词汇、句法和语篇方面展示着自己的特殊性。熟悉和掌握英文推销信和求职信的共同特征及它们的特殊性能帮助我们从题材的角度更好地了解推销信和求职信的本质特点和成因, 从而提高英文书信写作水平, 更好地发挥书信的交际功能, 促进客户关系的建立, 增进文化交流, 从而获得最大的经济效益和社会效益, 理论意义和实践意义都得到更好地实现。

1. 掌握应聘信的常规写作内容
一般来说,应聘信由介绍个人身份、表明写信意图、交代应聘目的、陈述应聘条件、表达感激之情、表明期待答复等几部分构成。在写作时,首先应介绍个人身份,表明自己的来历,比如真题开头部分的个人介绍交代了应征者的姓名、身份等。接着应表明写信意图,比如后附的参考范文第①句,说明自己要应聘学生志愿者(student volunteer)这个职位。接下来需要陈述应聘目的,说一下自己应聘这个职位的目的和动机,比如范文第②句说明自己是为了提高组织能力(organizational abilities)、沟通能力(communication skills)和增加当众说英语的自信(confidence in speaking English in public)。表明动机后再来说明应聘条件,介绍自己的优势和长处。为了增强说服力,在摆明自身优势时还可结合个人经历,比如范文第三段就举了自己做英语老师的助手帮助组织英语活动的例子。这三部分内容是应聘信最重要的部分,也是高考通常要求考生写作的内容。介绍完这些之后不要忘记表达一下自己的感激之情,比如范文第⑦句,这是应征者要具备的最基本的礼节。上述真题虽没有做出要求,但考生若能写出来,势必会为自己的作文加分。信的最后,可以表明自己期待对方的答复,比如真题的结尾句。如果需要还应提供自己的联系方式——这点高考一般不会要求,大家了解就行。具备上述内容,一封应聘信就算得上完整了。
2. 把握应聘信的写作基调
众所周知,写信应聘必然需要应征者表明自己的诚意,展示自己能做好工作的自信,并拥有感恩之心,因此应聘信应以表示真诚、展现自信和表达感激为基调。以参考范文为例,在表明自己对学生志愿者这个职位的渴望时,应征者用了really来强调自己的诚意,除此之外,还可以使用indeed、to tell you the truth等表示程度的词语。在介绍自己的优势时,范文用了such a good command of ...、successfully等词语来展示自己的自信心。当然,应征者最后也应不忘感激。表达感激之情除了可以使用范文中的I would be grateful if you ...,还可以使用I would be (very) thankful ...等。
3. 了解应聘信的语言规律
应聘信也有自己的语言规律,主要体现在句型表达上。参考范文就使用了多个应聘信特色语句,下面结合范文将一些常用句型总结如下。

不管何种文章都需要过渡性词语来衔接前后文,应聘信自然也是如此。信中使用过渡性词语较多的是在应聘目的和应聘条件的介绍上。当有多个目的需要说明时可以使用first、besides、what's more等过渡性词语,这些词语在介绍应聘条件时也可以使用,比如参考范文中就用了besides来展示自己不同方面的优势。除此之外,还可以用at the same time、in the meanwhile、in addition、also等过渡性词语。

推荐人应该了解申请人的学习经历,对于所推荐的内容也应该以事实为依据,并且推荐人对申请人的评估基准应该在推荐信中表现出来,例如,申请人在教过学生们的排名,或者由推荐人指导后申请人获得的奖项。推荐信的重点应该放在学校评审委员认为最重要的消息,比如如果你申请的专业比较注重实用性或动手能力,那公司的主管可能就比授课老师要有权威一些,但是如果你申请的专业是以学术为主,那么教授对申请人的资格的评估则较具可信力。
出国留学的推荐信在推荐人的选择上,要遵循熟悉、专业两个原则。
①推荐人要熟悉申请人的学习和工作,推荐人要清楚的知道申请人出国留学的动机和学习计划,最好有过比较密切的交流。在此基础上,如果推荐人是外国教授,而该教授和申请人申请的学校又很熟悉,这种推荐往往就能起到事半功倍的效果,当然很少有申请人可以找到这样符合条件的推荐人;如果推荐人是跟所申请的学校没什么关系,那么就要找在申请人所申请的专业内很有名的专家,像拥有院士之类头衔的人,经常参加国际交流,这样的推荐信作用也是不可忽视的,不过找这样的专家写推荐信也是比较难的;所以对于大部分申请人来说,我认为找推荐人还是以找熟人为主,因为一般熟人好说话,相对会比较容易配合你的申请,二是在评审委员看来也是比较合理的。
②推荐人的身份要合理,最好是相关专业的`。如果申请人是一个还在校的学生,那比较好的选择应该就是系主任、专业任课老师、班主任,或者课外活动、社会活动的见证人作为推荐人;如果申请人已经毕业或者参加工作了,也可以选择你的直接上司,或者大学毕业论文指导作为推荐人。在我看来没必要找一个和申请人的专业不熟悉,和申请人不熟悉的院士或者大公司总裁之类的人作为你的推荐人。

I am the professor of his Ancient Chinese course and also principal who manages the foreign students. We contact a lot with each other.
