1. 引言
词汇学习的重要性在整个大学英语教学中的地位毋庸置疑, 但学生学习大学英语词汇的积极性不高、学习效率低下, 与此同时越来越多的同学为了准备雅思、托福和四、六级考试疯狂背诵词汇书。造成大学词汇习得现状:学生不背单词, 不复习单词, 词汇量匮乏引发的各种二语习得中听说读写能力提高障碍——最关键最核心的问题是缺乏学习动力。因此, 让大学生意识到大学英语教材词汇的实用性和适用性尤为重要且迫切。通过我们对词汇量重合度的研究, 可以让大学生直观地感受自己可以从大学英语教材中获得大量词汇, 为顺利通过四级、六级、托福、雅思考试做出词汇方面的准备。有效激发学生学习大学英语词汇乃至大学英语教材的热情, 甚至探索出一定高效率的词汇学习策略以及词汇方面的应试策略技巧, 带动大学英语的教学与学习的改革和进一步探讨。
2. 国内外研究现状
词汇习得的策略和动机一直都是国外学者和二语/外语学习者研究的热点, 都强调词汇量的大小决定英语能力水平的高低, 并且词汇习得的效率与个人在学习之前所持的明确的学习目标和学习过程中不断被认可和满足的成就感息息相关。近年来, 国内教育界对大学英语词汇学习动机与策略的研究也是一个热点。张秀坤认为, 英语这个目标任务的价值包括它的负面价值——为掌握它所必须投入的时间、精力和其他费用。若对这一价值因素认识不足, 学习者就会在学习过程中吝惜自己的付出, 最终也会影响学习动机。
国外对于雅思托福考试的词汇研究主要集中在衡量词汇量测试的科学性以及应试策略领域, 暂时没有发现与中国国内的大学英语和英语四、六级相关的词汇量研究。国内英语学界对雅思和托福考试的词汇和大学英语词汇的相关性研究相对较少, 一般是基于雅思、托福考试应试策略以及对比国内考试测试系统的权威性和科学性做出分析与研究, 如杨雪、蒋龙所著的《TOEFL与IELTS的发展对我国高校英语测试的启示》等。其中, 国内对于雅思词汇与大学英语教学的研究较多 (方雯臻、王雨梅的《雅思考试与大学英语教学》) 。近几年的研究重点集中在如何运用雅思考试的测试思路来改革国内的测试评估系统以及改进二语/外语习得策略;而托福词汇与大学英语词汇的研究却几乎空白。
与此同时, 近年来国内关于四、六级词汇的研究, 集中在四、六级改革后的词汇教学改革的研究。
然而, 目前国内外均没有专门将国内的大学英语教材与英语四、六级和托福、雅思的词汇进行比较, 分析其重合度, 从而激发学生自主学习大学英语教材动机的研究。本研究以大学英语教材和国内外四类最主要的英语能力水平测试备考词汇书为基准, 建立相应词汇库, 分析其词汇的重合度, 旨在明晰大学英语教材词汇量对于通过四类主流英语能力水平测试的词汇储备的影响, 并探索以下问题: (1) 大学英语词汇量和四类考试词汇量重合度大小如何? (2) 大学英语词汇量如果能够比较高的与考试重合, 能否对学习动机产生正面的积极影响?
二研究方法
1. 研究设计
第一, 根据许仕杰编写的程序统计分析:将大学英语教材的词汇 (以《新视野大学英语》词汇表作为词库) 分别与CET4、CET6、TOEFL和IELTS的词汇进行比较, 并且筛选出与其相重合的词汇, 并在输出后, 计算出各个词汇数的具体词汇数量, 统计出重合的词汇占每个词库的比例, 并输出进行直观的比较。从具体数据得出方法:以input1.txt和input2.txt两个词汇表作为输入文件, 在运行完程序以后产生一个output.txt的输出文件, 将重合的词汇进行输出, 并且在最后分别计算出每个输入词汇表的单词数量、重合词汇数和重合词汇数分别占各个词汇表单词数的比例。
第二, 设计并发放500份调查问卷到排名不同的一本、二本、三本高校 (华中科技大学、华中师范大学、湖北工业大学、武汉工程大学、华中科技大学文华学院等) 非英语专业学生中, 并回收有效问卷300份。问卷设计旨在调查目前中国大学生学习大学英语的真实情况以及学习动机的分析:大学英语教材是否能为大学生词汇提供最主要的来源, 大学生的词汇还有哪些学习渠道, 他们的词汇学习习惯是什么样的, 对国内的四、六级考试和国外的雅思、托福考试的看法, 以及对现行大学英语词汇教育的意见和建议等。
2. 得出数据
第一, 新视野教材词汇量与四级、六级、托福、雅思的词汇量重合数据表。

三分析与讨论
1. 词汇重合度的结果分析
从大学英语教材与四大国内外最主流的语言能力水平测试的词汇量重合数据表来看, 《新视野大学英语》与四级词汇的重合率是57.2%, 与六级重合率高达75.5%, 托福是50.6%, 雅思的重合率达到60.8%。
因为与六级词汇的重合率达到了73.3%, 由此可以认为掌握了新视野的词汇量对于通过六级的词汇测试有很大的帮助。新视野的词汇量与四级词汇的重合率比六级要少, 这可能是因为:四级词汇本身就比六级词汇要少1377个, 而六级是在四级词汇的基础上增加的这1377个单词, 因此掌握了新视野词汇后通过四级没有太大问题的。《新视野大学英语》与雅思考试的重合率达到了60.8%, 这让在大学英语词汇学习中积极备考雅思的同学获得了信心, 托福考试超过半数的单词都是在《新视野》中出现过的, 因此一种新的词汇学习策略在大一开始学习大学英语之初就应提出来, 即在课内熟练掌握新视野教材的词汇, 这将为以后准备其他英语考试提供一个扎实的基础。
2. 问卷调查结果分析
从300份有效问卷中收集到的有效数据可以发现, 大学英语教材为大学生词汇提供了最主要的来源, 占到55.3%。而课外阅读扩展和出国考试培训分别为25.95%和13.69%。89.3%的大学生使用新视野作为大学英语教材。因此新视野教材丛书在学生的大学英语学习中占据着一个重要的角色, 如果能充分激发学生的学习热情, 善于使用这套丛书, 学生将从大学英语学习中获益无穷。
47.8%的学生认为大学英语词汇量涵盖是不合理或者完全不合理的, 仅有小于或等于2.18%的学生表示大学英语词汇涵盖量是非常合理的。从侧面反映大学英语词汇量的现行标准很难满足大学生的实际学习需要或通过四类英语水平测试的需要, 针对此现象, 蔡基刚教授提出要将大学生的英语词汇大纲从现行的五千左右调整为一万以上。我们建议这部分亟待增加的词语可以参考托福、雅思词汇, 增加大学生英语教材的词汇与出国考试词汇的重合度。
86.7%的同学认为学好大学英语对出国非常有帮助或者比较有帮助, 这也表明大学生对大学英语的期待是很高的, 一个良好的学习动机将会对学习造成巨大的促进性影响。尹枫指出, 大多数非英语专业学生的英语学习动机主要是通过考试、拿到文凭、找到好工作等外部动机;经过一学期的大学英语教学改革后, 学生的英语学习动机逐渐开始由外部动机向内部动机和结果型动机转换。具体地说, 由于他们慢慢开始喜欢新的教学方式, 并开始对英语学习产生兴趣, 他们英语学习的内部动机得到了相对的提高。同时, 学生在英语学习方面取得的进步, 也进一步激发了他们的英语学习热情, 促进了他们的结果型动机的生成。对大学生词汇学习缺乏积极主动性现状提出的要求是要提升他们的内部动机, 通过兴趣培养和效果前景的展示, 最终实现外部动机向内部动机和结果型的转换。
问卷的最后一部分是对大学英语词汇教学方面的建议。超过39.3%的人表达了增加词汇难度和数量的意愿, 说明现行的单词表可能在满足当前大学生的阅读习惯和阅读要求时还需要很大的提升。
四结论
1. 大学英语词汇深化改革应实现由需求主导向英语学习实用性转化
目前非英语专业学生学习大学英语词汇的动机, 直观地体现在四、六级词汇和托福、雅思的词汇上。如果能够将更多的四、六级词汇和托福、雅思词汇收录在大学英语教材单词表中, 大学英语课程学习就能在大学生一进校就明确其能为今后顺利通过四类英语考试打下坚实的基础, 至少在词汇方面是有保障的。当学生明确得知大学英语教材的词汇与各类语言水平测试的词汇重合度很高时, 他们学习大学英语教材词汇的积极性和主动性就将大大提高。
2. 大学英语词汇教学因袭的传统路线值得反思
在雅思考试和托福考试能够更合理更全面地评估英语语言能力水平这一点上, 有着广泛的共识。并且我们的词汇对比重合数据显示, 国内大学英语教材与国内的四、六级考试词汇的重合度要远远高于托福、雅思这两种国外的英语能力水平测试。然而, 托福、雅思作为全球通用的母语非英语人员的外语水平能力测试, 力求被测试者掌握在英语国家正常工作学习交流的词汇。这些词汇是应该被一个二语习得者掌握的基本词汇, 然而国内四、六级甚至考研词汇的重合率与之大不相同, 这体现出我国英语教学的指导方针之一是让我国大学生能最终具备读写学术期刊的能力, 而非与英语母语国家人民交流沟通的能力。我们的大学英语究竟要培养不会听说只会读写的学者英语, 还是要培养能够担任具备良好的跨文化交际能力的国际化人才, 这一点值得教育学界进一步商榷。
