1 对比研究

1.1 样本收集

为了发现中国公司简介英译文中普遍出现的翻译问题, 该文作者从网上搜集了40篇中国公司及英语国家公司的简介构成小型语料库, 其中20篇英文国家公司简介来自总部位于英语国家的电子、软件、物流、纺织和石材等行业巨头, ;另外20篇中国公司的简介来自中国同样领域的行业巨头。

1.2 样本分类及数据统计

这四十篇公司简介被分为两类, 分别是20篇中国企业简介 (CCP-Chinese Corporate Profiles) 和20篇外国企业简介 (FCP-Foreign Corporate Profiles) 。

从以上表1中可以看出, 中国公司的英文企业简介的平均字数为416.2字, 而英语国家企业简介的平均字数为248.1字。t检验结果显示两者之间存在显著性差异。这说明, 中国企业在英文简介的字数明显多于英语国家企业简介的字数。

表2显示中国公司的企业简介平均每篇包含4.95段, 英语国家公司企业简介平均包含5.3段, t检验结果显示两者之间并未存在显著差异。在作者进一步对中国企业英文简介和英语国家公司企业简介每篇所包含句子数的统计中发现中国公司的企业简介平均每篇有15.5句, 而英语国家公司简介则包括12.7句。两者之间并不存在显著性差异。

因此可以总结, 中国公司的英文简介通常比英语国家企业简介长, 两者有明显差异;但是在字数和段落方面, 两者之间并不存在显著的区别。

2 二者对比研究及翻译策略

为了能够译出, 必要时改写出符合目的语读者习惯的中国公司企业简介, 分析样本中二者差别可以给译员带来一些启示。

2.1 词汇差异

中国企业汉语简介里常有很多形容词或者副词修饰名词或者动词, 以加强语气, 期望给读者留下深刻印象, 比如

从上面的英文翻译中可以看出, 译者在翻译时并没有做过多的考虑, 而是字对字的翻译了原文, 这样做容易给读者造成华而不实、浮夸的印象。而在以下这篇英语国家企业简介中, 作者并没有用太多的形容词和副词, 而是用一些客观数据有力的说明了本公司的实力。因此译者在翻译汉语企业简介时应该注意到目的语读者重视客观事实的思维模式。

2.3 语篇差异

中国的企业简介以“起承转合”式为主流, 行文规整, 格式单一;西方的企业简介则逐层介绍关键信息, 整体构成较为松散。实际上, “文章结构差异”归根结底是由价值观差异所引起的, 是价值观差异在文章“整体”上的体现。中英文企业简介所立足的价值观是不同的:中文简介主要立足于企业价值, 着重于展示企业的形象;而英文简介是以消费者为出发点, 集中展示产品的消费价值或企业与消费者的利益关系。正因为这样, 中方企业简介中认为有价值的信息, 在外商眼里可能会变得索然无趣。在笔者搜集的英语国家企业简介中, 有些跨国公司会根据分公司所在国家和区域的不同提供不同语言、不同类型相互独立的企业简介, 所有的简介都是原创而不是译文。这样, 中英文简介的篇章组成差异就体现得非常鲜明。也就是说, 同一家公司, 在不同的国家“入乡随俗, 换了衣裳”。

2.4 语体差异

英语是作者责任制 (writer-responsible) , 中文是读者责任制 (reader-responsible) 。在翻译企业简介时, 译者应该注意中英文企业简介的这种语体差异。企业简介相当于一封销售信, 目的是向读者推销自己。据作者对搜集的20篇英语国家企业简介观察发现, 其简介几乎都在正文部分采取的是从读者角度出发的you-attitude, 且正文内容的80%都是有关自己的产品或者服务的。除此以外, 所有的这些简介还提供了企业联系方式。而中国企业的英文简介里很少有从读者角度出发的, 并且正文中有关自己的产品或者提供的服务的内容只有不到60%。其他部分还包括本公司目前所获得的奖项和取得的成就等。20篇中也只有三篇直接在简介里给出了企业的联系方式, 可能译者认为读者应该自己在企业网站上寻找相关的联系信息。

3 结束语

该文在选取四十篇中国及英语国家企业简介的基础上, 构建小型语料库, 对字, 句, 段数进行数据分析比较后发现中国公司企业的简介翻译和英语国家公司企业简介在总字数和段落数方面基本是相同的。又从词汇、句法、语篇、语体等角度举例分析说明两者之间的异同点并根据分析结果对翻译企业简介提出有针对性的建议。公司负责人应该意识到不是所有学过英语的人都可以翻译公司简介, 必须邀请英语国家人士或者擅长商务英语的人来参与。另外, 学校的商务英语也要加以改进, 应该增加《公司简介的翻译与写作》这样的内容。

一、引言

语料库（Corpus）是为专门用途设计的、具有特定结构、能通过计算机程序进行检索，达到一定规模的有代表性的语料的集合。特别是随着语料库检索的出现， 过去以定性为主的文体分析， 可以引入科学的定量分析， 从而提供了一个全新的语篇分析视角。这种定性和定量相结合的研究方式， 能够更为客观地揭示语篇的文体特征及语言风格。随着全球经济一体化速度不断加快，我国越来越多的企业都制作样本，建立网站，发布汉英对照版或者英文版的企业简介。基于此，本文尝试利用语料库检索软件Antconc对中美15家银行企业从词汇层面进行对比分析，揭示中美银行简介的差异。

二、基于中美银行企业英文简介的对比研究

1.语料库的建设。自建两个可比语料库子库A和子库B，子库A为15家中国银行的英文简介，子库B为15家美国银行的英文简介。所有简介均来源于企业官网中About us部分。抽取的15家中国银行中有中央银行、国有商业银行，也有股份制商业银行，抽取的美国银行也遍布全国，均属于随机抽样。企业名单如下：

中国银行英文简介语料库企业名单：

中信银行、中国银行、中国人民银行、中国农业银行、中国民生银行、中国建设银行、中国光大银行、中国工商银行、招商银行、兴业银行、浦发银行、平安银行、交通银行、华夏银行、广发银行

美国银行英文简介语料库企业名单：

亚特兰大银行、夏威夷银行、摩根大通银行、美洲银行、美国花旗银行、美国恒丰银行、荷兰银行北美控股公司、联邦储备银行、加利福尼亚美洲银行、汇丰银行、华美银行、美国合众银行、国泰银行、城市国家银行、北美银行

2.研究工具。本研究所采用的工具是语料库检索软件Antconc3.2.2和卡方检验计算器Chi-square Calculator。Antconc具有词语检索（Concordance）、生成词表（Word List）和主题词（Keyword List）三大功能。Chi-square Calculator检索出的卡方值表明该值在显著性水平上是否有意义。

3.研究方法。通过比较两个不同大小的语料库，可以得到主题词，也就是所研究的语料库中频率超常的词语。计算主题词需要两个语料库，一个是观察语料库（observed corpus），一个是参照语料库（reference corpus）。一般来说，参照语料库要比观察语料库大一些（付海燕，夏慧言，陈建生，2011）。本研究旨在利用Antconc三大功能，以子库A作为参照语料库，以子库B作为观察语料库，通过提取主题词，对子库A与子库B在词汇方面进行定量分析，探索中美银行企业简介的异同。

三、词汇研究结果与分析

1.总体文本特征对比。词汇密度在一定程度上可以反映文本用词的多样性。测量词汇密度的主要工具是类符/形符比（Type/Token Ratio，简称TTR），由于不同容量的语料库类符/形符比不具可比性，故一般使用标准化类符/形符比（Std. TTR）来衡量语料库的词汇密度。该值高，则文中出现的重复词就少，该值低，则文中出现的重复词就相对较多。

利用Antconc检索得出子库A与子库B的类符形符数（表1），进而计算得出子库A的词汇密度为19.837，子库B的词汇密度为35.860。用卡方检验子库A和子库B的词汇密度是否具有显著性差异，得到卡方值为47.82，说明在自由度为1，显著性水平为0.001时，是有意义的。

因此，美国银行简介较中国银行简介词汇密度高，因而重复率低，用词丰富，而中国银行简介用词则重复率高，用词单一。

2.主题词表。在语料库分析中，在单篇或多篇文本中具有超高复现频率的词称作主题词。通过观察主题词，可以发现任一给定文类或主题文本的词语特征。鉴于本研究中子库A的规模大体相当于子库B的三倍，将子库B作为观察语料库，将子库A作为参照语料库。利用Ant.Conc主题词提取功能，得出主题词表。所列词汇表明在子库B中的使用频率明显高于在子库A中的使用频率。

从上图可以看出，we和our的出现频率非常高，考察we出现的词群，经常出现在“we offer…”， “we aim…”， “we combine…”等宣传企业及表明为顾客服务的话语中。在这些语境中，用第一人称“we”指代本公司，这样将公司人格化，拉近了与读者的距离。而our的词群则是“our customers…”， “our goal…”等搭配的结构中。突出了我们公司是一个很大的团队，我们有信心提供优质的服务，有利于向民众宣传企业良好形象。而we和our在子库A中出现的频率明显偏低，其中we出现16次，our出现26次，而在子库B中分别出现76次和50次。

四、结语

本文利用Antconc语料库检索软件，通过自建小型可比语料库对中国银行和美国银行的英文简介进行量化比较分析，发现两者在词汇特征方面存在差异。通过以上分析，得出企业简介具备的语言特点，以达到最好的宣传企业信息的目的。这种定量和定性相结合的语料库检索分析方法，可以丰富研究文本的视角，更合理的诠释文本的信息。

1 Introduction

The Color Purple (1982) , written by the most influential and prominent Afro-American female writer Alice Walker (1944-) , made her the first Afro-American woman who won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Her successfully portraying a series of images of Afro-American women can not be separated from her life experience.Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1944 in a small rural town of Eatonton, Georgia.Her parents’experiences with the oppressive sharecropping system and the racism of the American South had deeply influenced her writing style.Violent racism and family poverty strengthened her belief to help strive for improving the poor social conditions of Afro-American women through her novels.

There were two movements that influenced her writing of her novels deeply.The first was Civil Rights Movement, under whose influence such as The Third Life of Grange Copeland (1970) , Meridian (1976) and The Color Purple were created.Another movement that influenced her deeply was the Women’s Liberation Movement, which inspired her to write for sake of miserable black women.As an Afro-American writer, she concerned about the conditions of black women who suffered the double oppression—racism and sexism.

2 Celie’s Zigzagging Process of Self-awakening

2.1 The Loss of Self-Recognition

In the American society, black women have been oppressed both physically and mentally as a result of racial prejudice and sexual discrimination.They are considered to be inferior to the white so few can be engaged in brainwork;in the familial life, they are thought to be created to serve for men, so many of them work as housekeepers, maidservants, or even sexual tools for black men Thus, it is easy for them to loss self-recognition.Celie’s life is the general black women’s downtrodden conditions in miniature.

2.1.1 Patriarchal Domination by Celie’s Stepfather

At the beginning of the story, Celie is oppressed first by her father, whom she later learns is really her stepfather and by whom she has been raped since she is 14.What’s more, she has two children with her father, but her father gives them away to other men which leaves everlasting wound in her heart.Faced with such oppression, she chooses to endure and accept for her father threatens her, ”You better not never tell nobody but God.It’d kill your mammy.”[1]So she begins to write letters to God Though she has been disrespected, beaten and abused, she dare not cry, nor fight against.All she could do is to persuade herself that she is a tree instead of a living human-being, or to imagine she is not there.This reflects walker’s words:”Black women don’t ask that much like they are today.”[2]Besides all these, her stepfather, with his patriarchal superiority and power, forces her to do all the household chores and beats her without any reason.Obedience is the only way in which Celie could ever think to behave.

Without education and enough self-recognition, she takes her situation for granted and firmly believes this is how women should be treated in a family.It’s such conception prevent black women seeking their own identity in the society.

Everything can be decided by men even marriage.Her husband is Mr._.But she even doesn’t know his name.The author here indicates men dominated everything—this is universal, Mr._could be any man.

2.1.2 Familial Oppression by Celie’s Husband

Unfortunately, Albert mistreats Celie just as her father does, and again she acquiesces in it.Albert forces Celie to help raise his children, which give her a hard time.

Respect for Celie is never in his mind.In his eyes, Celie is more like a working machine, a tool to satisfy sexual desire, than a person.Celie describes her husband like this:”You don't do what he say, he beat you.Sometime beat me anyhow, I say, whether I do what he say or not.He don't want a wife, he want a dog.”When he needs her, he yells at her, but when not, Celie is an invisible thing.Moreover, he even brings home his mistress Shug Avery and all day runs around her regardless his responsibility to Celie as a husband.In this house, Mr._has absolutely control over Celie:Celie is forbidden to wear pants, no matter how inconvenient a skirt is when she works in the field;she is forbidden to take letters from the mailbox, for Albert doesn’t want her to receive her sister’s letter, who is the world of her;she is forbidden to go to town, and even to wear her favorite color;she is forbidden to receive her sister in the house.Albert doesn’t allow any rebellion to him.Always, he just beats her violently with no reason.When his son, Harpo, asks him why he beats her, he says:“cause she my wife.Plus, she stubborn.”Celie confesses to Sofia, ”you do what I can't—Fight.“Under such Patriarchal Domination and Familial Oppression, Celie totally lost her Self-Recognition.

2.2. The Finding of Self-Recognition by Sisterhood with Net-tie, Shug and Sofia

The finding of self-recognition means to realize black women’s self-awareness, self-confidence, self-respect and self-independence.Walker emphasizes the importance of“sisterhood”in black women’s emancipation.She“sees the possibility of empowerment for black women if they create a community of sisters that can alter the present-day unnatural definitions of woman and man.”[3]When black women unite together, they can be strong enough to fight against men.

2.2.1 Sisterhood with Nettie:The Basis of Self-awakening

Celie and Nettie have depended on each other for survival since their childhood because of their natural father’s death and their mother’s weak-mindedness.

When Nettie runs away from her father, Celie accepts her.However, Nettie’s young and beautiful face attracts Mr._to make his plan on Nettie.Unlike Celie, Nettie fights against him persistently which enrages him.As a result, He dirves Nettie out of his house and separates the two sisters.To Celie, this is the biggest strike.Nettie promises to write letters to Celie constantly.But these letters never reach Celie.Though very likely it’s because of Nettie’s death, Celie still holds a flash of hope that her sister is still alive.Later, Shug finds that it is Mr._that suppresses all of Nettie’s letters.Since then her will to rebel is awaken.The hope of living a better life with Nettie is Celie’s motive to seek for self-identity.

As Nettie has accepted formal education, she has her own independent ideas and rebellious consciousness.Nettie teaches Celie to read write and think.She encourage celie:”Don't let them run over you You got to let them know who got the upper hand.You got to fight.You got to fight.”This power supports her to find her identity and to rebel.Thus, the sisterhood with Nettie is the basis of the process to Self-awakening.

2.2.2 Sisterhood with Sofia:The Encouragement of Self-awak-ening

Sofia also plays an important role in Celie’s self-awaking.As a black woman, Sofia has a notion of feminism.She has such powerful and strong mind that she can never bear anyone take charge of her When Harbo beats her, she beats back immediately.She knows it’s her right to demand equality and respect from men;besides she knows how to fight.Through Sofia’s fight that Celie realizes the great contrast between them, and it touches Celie’s heart.Celie admires the rebellious spirit that Sofia has which inspires her own.Sofia, in order to maintain her dignity, refuses to serve for the white and even beats the white, which results in her imprisonment for 11 years.She teaches Celie that don’t be afraid of anyone and if someone hurts you, just fight back.Sofia makes Celie realize that women can be independent, strong and courageous, which encourage her to rebel and to find her dignity.

2.2.3 Sisterhood with Shug:guidance of Self-awakening

Shug is Mr._’s mistress, who is ought to be Celie’s enemy.However, they become friends and it’s Shrug who leads Celie to struggle for liberation and equality and eventually find her own identity.

Shug leads Celie out of the wilderness of unconsciousness giving her another concept of being.She encourages Celie not to subject to the rules and conventions using in the male-domination world.Shug has successfully guided Celie to emancipation by helping her to discover her own body;by giving her the ability to love and see the creation in herself and finally by letting her hear her own voice and express it.Humanity glares in the healing process between Shug and Celie.Celie goes through Baptist of soul, and happily welcome her rebirth.

2.3 The Emancipation of Celie

Celie’s religious self-awakening begins from Nettie telling Celie in her letters that their father now is not their natural father, who has been lynched by white men in their childhood.This makes Celie, who used to be a faithful Christian, shakes her belief in the patriarchal system and even anthropomorphic patriarchal God for she suddenly realizes that she has grown up with unfair treatment and she hasn’t gotten help from God.Celie finally dares to pour out her discontentment of God, “God is a white man.”She complains to Shug, “God give me a lynched daddy, a crazy mama, a lowdown dog of a step pa and a sister I probably won't ever see again.”The change in her ideology of religion marks her rebirth of soul。

After leaving Albert’s house, Celie decides to depend on herself, and discovers her talent in making pants, in which she discovers her wisdom, gains self-confidence and achieves economic independence.Celie expresses her happiness in her letter:“I am so happy.I got love, I got work, 1 got money, friends and time.”Moreover, she paints her room into purple and red, which is against Albert’s will and indicates her success in fighting against the oppression of men.

3 Conclusion

In The Color Purple, the Protagonist, Celie transforms from a downtrodden black woman who suffers the oppression of racism and sexism to an independent and successful woman who achieves self-awakening and self-confidence with the help of sisterhood with Nettie, Shug and Sofia.Not only does she wins her esteem love and dignity, but also establishes a harmonious relationship with men.The Color Purple is a successful representation of Alice Walker’s womanism which sets up a successful example for not only those oppressed black women, but all the women who are undergoing oppression, and encourages them to be independent and tofight for freedom and happiness.
