From the research conducted by the communications provider Inter-Tel, we learned that ______ .
What development has made flexible working practices possible according to Andy Poulton?
Single mother Lynne Hargreaves decided to work at home mainly to _____.
题中人名Lynne Hargreaves出现在最后两段,考生可以再利用二级定位词single mother定位在文章最后一段:“The main motivation behind adopting home working was to increase my own productivity, as a single mum to an 11-year-old.”
Carrying on a mobile phone conversation while one is driving is considered dangerous because it seriously distracts __________.
(Even using a “hands-free” device can divert a driver’s attention to an alarming extent.) 本题答案为a driver’s attention。
Results of the experiments show that those who were making the equivalent of a hands-free call took __________ to react than those who were not.
本题关键词非常明确,即带有连字符的hands-free,用此词定位到文中“Those who were making an equivalent of a hands-free call had an average reaction time 212 milliseconds slower than those who were not.”
仔细阅读部分的试题难度没有太大的变化,两篇文章分别选自《今日美国》(USA Today)上的“Shortage of Primary Care Threatens Health Care System”(2008年3月)一文和《纽约时报》(The New York Times)上的“The Toxic Paradox”(2009年2月)一文。
The author’s chief concern about the current U.S. health care system is _________.
We learn from the passage that people tend to believe that _________.
Faced with the government threats to cut reimbursements indiscriminately, primary care physicians have to ________.
Why do many new medical graduates refuse to choose primary care as their career?
What suggestion does the author give in order to provide better health care?
在跳读文章的过程中,考生可以发现全文结构清晰可辨,第四段首句“How did we let primary care slip so far?”表明作者从现象阐述过渡到原因分析,而第七段首句“How do we fix this problem?”
The author’s chief concern about the current U.S. health care system is _________.
A. the inadequate training of physicians
B. the declining number of doctors
C. the ever-rising health care costs
D. the shrinking primary care resources
根据关键词U.S. health care system定位在文章第二段:“Primary care should be the backbone of any health care system. Countries with appropriate primary care resources score highly when it comes to health outcomes and cost. The U.S. takes the opposite approach by emphasizing the specialist rather than the primary care physician.”

30. [H] random
31. [K] temptation
32. [N] unique
33. [D] engaged
34. [J] spiritually
35. [B] closer
解析:
26题空格前的has been和后面的by fear,判断此处要填入一个动词的完成时,CD容易混淆,一般engaged会和in搭配,driven和by搭配,后面的题再经排除,可以锁定为C;
N unique.
Section B
36. [E] It seems some people today dream that a cutting-edge new technology ...
37. [I] According to one great thinker, It is most unfortunate if we lose the ability to think differently.

解析:
37题干中的绝对词the most unfortunate可以帮助定位I段的the most tragic form, 以及该段出现的哲学家对应题干的great thinker
38题干的关键信息是ecological problems和comfortable life,定位C段中出现in search for comfort,段尾出现的各种环境生态问题。
Section C
Passage One
46. [B] People’s reluctance to be compelled to eat plant-based food.
47. [C] Make them even more undernourished.
48. [B] Many people simply do not have access to foods they prefer.
49. [D] It may worsen the nourishment problem in low-income countries.
50. [A] It accepts them at the expense of the long-term interests of its people.
EAT-Lancet claimed its intention was to spark conversations among all Indian stakeholders”, 选项A中的“at the expense of ”, 译为“以…
Passage Two
51. C They constantly dismiss other’s proposals while taking no responsibility…
52. D A distinction should be drawn between responsibilty and fault.
53. A Stop them from going further by agreeing with them.
54. B They are prompted to come up with ideas for making possible changes.as
55. C Assuming responsibility to free oneself.
53 题是关于其他人如何跟习惯抱怨的人相处,一种应对策略,定位到第三段there’s an ingenious way to shut it down.
To the professional anthropologist, there is no intrinsic superiority of one culture over another, just as to the professional linguist there is no intrinsic hierarchy among languages.
People once thought of the languages of backward groups as savage, undeveloped forms of speech, consisting largely of grunts and groans. While it is possible that language in general began as a series of grunts and groans, it is a fact established by the study of “backward” languages that no spoken tongue answers that description today. Most languages of uncivilized groups are, by our most severe standards, extremely complex, delicate, and ingenious pieces of machinery for the transfer of ideas. They fall behind our Western languages not in their sound patterns or grammatical structures, which usually fully adequate for all language needs, but only in their vocabularies, which reflects the objects and activities known to their speakers. Even in this department, however, two things are to be noted: 1. All languages seem to possess the machinery for vocabulary expansion, either by putting together words already in existence or by borrowing them from other languages and adapting them to their own system. 2. The objects and activities requiring names and distinctions in “backward” languages, while different from ours, are often surprisingly numerous and complicated. An accidental language distinguishes merely between two degrees of remoteness (“this” and “that”); some languages of the American Indians distinguish between what is close to the speaker, or to the person addressed, or removed from both, or out of sight, or in the past, or in the future.
This study of language, in turn, casts a new light upon the claim of the anthropologists that all culture are to be viewed independently, and without ideas of rank or hierarchy.

A.sound patterns
B.vocabularies
C.grammatical structures
D.both A and B
2.The author says that professional linguists recognize that ___.
A.Western languages are superior to Eastern languages
B.All languages came from grunts and groans
C.The hierarchy of languages is difficult to understand
D.There is no hierarchy of languages
3.The article states that grunt-and-groan forms of speech are found ___.
A.nowhere today
B.among the Australian aborigines
C.among Eastern cultures
D.among people speaking “backward” languages
4.According to the author, languages, whether civilized or not, have ___.
A.the potential for expanding vocabulary
B.their own sound patterns
C.an ability to transfer ideas
D.grammatical structures
5.Which of the following is implied but not articulated in the passage?
A.The study of languages has discredited anthropological studies.
B.The study of language has reinforced anthropologists in their view that there is no hierarchy among cultures.
C.The study of language is the same as the study of anthropologists.
D.The study of languages casts a new light upon the claim of anthropologists.

Aging of the Population
Population officials and demographers have muchto worry about China’s increasingly aging population. It is estimated that the proportion ofpeople aged 60 or older in China will rise to 11.8 percent in 2020. By the middle of this century, people aged beyond 60 will take up 27.4 percent of the total population ― that means one outof every four people will be senior!
The aging population poses a serious challenge to families and the society. On the onehand, with families becoming smaller and living pace escalating, it is even graver for families tocare for aged members adequately. On the other hand, aging causes a relative decline inworking force. Consequently, the productivity of the whole society will be affected to someextent.
The rapidity of the population’s aging has made it more urgent for the adoption ofcountermeasures. There is no doubt that the key is to build a solid economic foundation.Meanwhile, importance should be attached to overall social progress by changing the backwardsituation in social security, welfare and service. What’s more, family care and community-based services should also be encouraged.

Waste Sorting
Waste sorting is not a popular convention inour country, though it should be. Garbage bins filledwith all sorts of recyclable and non―recyclablewastes mixed together are seen everywhere. Peoplestill haven’ t formed the habit of sorting wastes.
The neglect of waste sorting will bring about aseries of problems. First of all, it causes a mass ofwaste of resources that could have been recycled or reused. Secondly, the growing amount ofmixed rubbish will take up a lot of space in the landfill site, which will worsen the land shortageproblem. Last but not least, it will increase the cost of waste treatment.
Waste sorting should be advocated, no matter from the perspective of economy orenvironment. Everyone should do their best by starting from daily life. More importantly, morecampaigns for waste sorting should be conducted to raise the public awareness.

When you look up at the night sky, what do you see? There are other heavenly bodies out there besides the moon and stars. One of the most fascinating of this is a comet. Comets were formed around the same the earth was formed. They are made up of ice and other frozen liquids and gasses. Now and then these dirty snow balls begin to orbit the sun just as the planets do. As a comet gets closer to the sun. Some gasses in it begin to unfreeze. They combine with dust particles from the comet to form a huge cloud. As the comet gets even nearer to the sun and solar wind blows the cloud behind the comet thus forming its tail. The tail and generally fuzzy atmosphere around the comet are characteristics that can help identify this phenomenon in the night sky. In any given year, about dozen known comets come close to the sun in their orbits. The average person can’t see them all of course. Usually there is only one or two a year bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. Comet Hale-Bopp discovered in 1995 was an unusually bright comet. Its orbit bought relatively to the earth within 122 million miles of it. But Hale-Bopp came a long way on its earthly visit. It won’t be back for another 4 thousand years or so.
