2 理论基础

学生在英语口语表达中犯错后应该立即纠错还是延迟纠错是目前教师们面临的一个问题。如果立即纠错, 许多教师认为会打断学生并导致他们在课堂上失去将语言说出口的积极性, 这样的影响显然是消极的。然而, 英国语言学家朗 (Long认为, 心理学研究文献表明语言产出与反馈之间间隔时间越长, 反馈的效果就会越差[3]。这就意味着, 如果教师在英语口语课上延迟纠错, 时间越长纠错的效果就会随之降低。

针对教师是否应该在课堂上当面给犯错学生进行纠错反馈的问题, 向朝红强调, 英语口语课堂上适当的纠错是有必要的。她还认为, 要提高口语纠错的有效性, 就要将对话录音并加以利用[4]。一些研究者针对纠错的执行者作了调查研究, 例如, 田永芳调查得出三种纠错执行者:第一, 自我纠错;第二, 小组纠错;第三, 教师纠错[5]。

针对纠错方法, 王雪珍研究认为, 教师的纠错并非总是有用。此外, 她建议, 学生应该被允许进行自我纠错, 因为自我纠错能够帮助学生们对口语中出现的错误重视起来, 并减少对教师的依赖[6]。还有一些研究者找出了具体的纠错方法, 供教师采纳来帮助学生更好地学习口语。例如, 根据王静的研究, 她认为有四种帮助学生纠错的方法:第一, 找出犯错的原因;第二, 根据语言规则给出提示;第三, 分析错误语言点的相同或相似之处用以处理之后出现的类似错误;第四, 引入语言背景知识[7]。

任静明和胡蓉认为, 在学习英语的过程中, 由于受母语和本国文化的影响, 中国大学生难以避免地会犯一些错误。对于英语教师而言, 了解何时纠错与如何纠错相当重要[8]。

3 研究设计

3.1 研究问题及研究工具

本研究主要是探究大学生英语口语学习自我纠错能力, 以及教师可采用的帮助学生们培养自我纠错能力的方法, 从而使他们能够将英语口语学得更好。对此, 笔者采用了问卷调查的研究工具, 主要针对以下两个问题做了调查:

1) 大学生培养英语口语自我纠错能力的方法有哪些?

2) 教师可采用的帮助学生们培养自我纠错能力的方法有哪些?

3.2 研究对象

本次调查的研究对象是中北大学人文社会科学学院大四的40名学生, 他们有大学四年的英语学习基础, 也有过上英语口语课的经历。因此, 调查结果能够保证一定的有效性和可靠性。

3.3 数据收集

针对本次调查, 笔者共发放问卷40份, 每份问卷包括10个问题。此次问卷调查是在自由的环境下进行的, 并要求研究对象根据真实情况作答以此保证问卷的可靠性和有效性, 笔者最终收回有效问卷40份。

4 结果与讨论

4.1 问卷调查结果

针对本次调查分析的两个研究问题, 问卷调查的结果通过以下两个图表显示:

上表数据显示:17.5%的学生经常模仿标准英语表达来提高口语能力并进行自我纠错;70%的学生有时才会这样做;仅有5%and 7.5%的偶尔或从不这么做。20%的学生经常通过对比标准英语发音检查他们的口语是否标准;50%的学生有时才会这么做。20%的学生经常通过参加课堂活动练习口语并培养自我纠错能力, 20%的学生选择有时, 有一半的学生仅仅是偶尔这么做, 还有10%的学生从不这么做。

上表数据显示:30%的学生经常在教师的启发下进行自我纠错;40%的学生有时会得到教师的启发。仅有10%的学生经常在老师的帮助下重视自己的错误, 并阐明犯错原因。有20%的学生在老师的要求下通过复述来自我纠错, 有50%的学生有时才会被要求这么做。

4.2 问卷调查结果讨论

根据调查, 笔者得知, 仅有少数学生通过模仿标准英语表达来提高口语能力并进行自我纠错, 通过对比标准的英语发音来检查他们的口语发音是否标准, 通过参加课堂活动练习口语并培养自我纠错能力。因此, 自我纠错能力对提高英语口语能力的帮助并未引起大部分学生的重视。

与此同时, 学生们渴望提高他们的英语口语能力, 并且希望得到教师的帮助。因此, 教师们应该想办法鼓励并帮助学生们张口练习口语。然而, 问卷调查结果表明学生们并未从教师那里得到足够与适当的帮助来培养自我纠错能力。学生是英语学习的主体, 教师们除了教授基本知识, 还要关注学生们的需求。只有充分了解了学生们的需求, 教师们才能根据他们的具体情况及时调整相应的教学策略, 并不断地提高教学质量。所以在给出纠错反馈时, 教师们不仅要分析错误类型, 还要考虑以学生能接受的纠错方式去进行纠错反馈。

5 结论

通过对本次问卷调查的定量分析, 笔者针对两个研究问题得出以下研究结论:

1) 大学生们应当被鼓励通过听VOA, BBC, CNN的广播, 或是看英文电影等去模仿标准的英语发音和表达, 并且通过对比自己的发音和表达来进行自我纠错, 从而不断提高自己的口语水平。此外, 小组讨论或辩论赛也能够为大学生练习英语口语并培养自我纠错能力提供很多机会。

2) 通过问卷得知, 学生在教师的启发下进行自我纠错, 在老师的帮助下重视自己的错误并阐明犯错原因, 以及在老师的要求下通过复述来自我纠错都是帮助学生培养自我纠错能力的有效方法。

由于本研究仅仅从大学教师和大学生角度去研究自我纠错, 样本有限, 使研究结果有了一定的局限性, 无法完整地体现所有大学生的英语口语学习自我纠错能力。在今后的调查研究中, 可以选取更多的学生, 教师以及教育专家作为研究样本, 并采取课堂观察、采访等其他多样的研究工具, 以保证调查研究的可靠性和有效性。
