1.主语和be (am、is 、are) 的缩写:

(1) am常与人称代词I连用, 常有缩写,

例如:I am a boy. → I’m a boy.

(2) is用于主语是第三人称单数的句中, 常与he、she、it和that等连用。

常有缩写, 但与this连用时无缩写。

例如:His name is Kangkang.→ His name's Kangkang. (√)

He is a teacher.→ He’s a teacher. (√)

This is a dog. →This’s a dog. (×)

3) are常与you、they、we、those等连用。常有缩写, 但与these连用时, 无缩写。

例如:You are a good student.→ You’re a good student. (√)

We are friends.→ We’re friends. (√)

They are in the same class.→They're in the same class. (√)

These are our new bikes.→ These’re our new bikes. (×)

4) 在一般疑问句的肯定回答中, 主语和be动词不能缩写。

1．“what is”可缩写成“what’s”，“who is”可缩写成“who’s”，“where is”可缩写成“where’s”，但“which is”不可缩写成“which’s”。试译：

正：Can you tell me which is the way to the post office?

2．“am not”的缩写形式是ain’t，但很少使用。常见的是am同其前面的主语I缩写在一起，成为“I’m”。试译：

误：I ain’t interested in that book．

正：I’m not interested in that book．

注意：在以“I am…?”开头的反意疑问句中，其附加问句部分否定形式的主语前用aren’t。例如：I’m a teacher of English， aren’t I?

3．“I’m”，“you’re”，“they’re”，“she’s”，“it’s”，“we’re”等缩写词不能用于肯定形式的简略答语中。试译：

4．在“have a talk”，“have a meeting”，“have a rest”，“have breakfast”等短语中，“have”是实义动词而不是助动词，所以在句中不能与其前面的主语构成缩写形式。试译：

5．“‘ll”，“‘ve”，“‘s”，“‘re”，“‘d”等与句中主语缩写时，不能用于句尾。试译：

又如：我不知道他是谁。

误：I don’t know who he’s.

6．“‘s”，“‘ll”等缩写形式在句中与前一个字母发音相同时，不能与其缩写在一起。试译：
